Pertamina announces new oil discovery in Rantau field

Pertamina has successfully found new oil reserve in its brown field in Rantau, North Sumatra, the fifth oil discoveries made by the state owned oil and gas company in the field, Investor Daily reported on Tuesday.

Ridwan Nyak Baik, the general manager of Pertamina's operation unit for Aceh and North Sumatra, said that the new finding, with an estimated production capacity of 705 barrels per day, was made in the company's P-290 exploration well in the Rantau field.

"The finding was the fifth discoveries made by the company since the last six months," he said.

The other four discoveries were made in the P-75 well, with a production capacity of 1,500 bpd, in the P-363 oil well, with a production capacity of 1,000 bpd, in the P-364, with a capacity of 1,000 bpd and in the R-139, with a production capacity of 500 bpd.

Ridwan said that the new discoveries were made as part of Pertamina's efforts to increase oil production in its old oil fields. (*)
