Pertamina announces successful Lampung geothermal well production test

PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy, a geothermal arm of state oil and gas company PT Pertamina said Friday it has successfully conducted production test at Ulubelu #5 well, which would be able to produce electricity of 10MW.

The well, which is located Tenggamus regency, Lampung, is one of the nine wells drilled to produce 2x55MW of electricity slated to start commercial operations in 2011.

The well was drilled to the depth of 1,705 meters with temperature at the reservoir reached 260 degree Celcius.

Pertamina will supply steam from Ulubelu to power plant operated by state electricity firm PLN.

The company said Ulubelu has potential to generate 300MW of electricity. (bernard)
