Pertamina applies EOR in Tanjung field

?We appreciate Pertamina for its application of EOR in its oil field. We support them to do it as a way to increase our national production,? SKK Migas Secretary Gde Pradnyana said in Jakarta on Wednesday.
Currently, Pertamina controls about 58 percent of oil and gas working areas in Indonesia. As a result, of the total oil reserve of 3.6 billion barrels in Indonesia, about 50 percent is contained in the working areas controlled by Pertamina.
?While visiting the Tanjung field, we saw that Pertamina had applied the EOR by implementing a chemical injection in the field since 12th February 2013.
Gde said that previously the field?s production was only about 300 barrels per day, but now the production has reached about 700 barrels per day.
According to him, the EOR is expected to increase production from Tanjung field to 1,000 barrels by 21st February 2013. ?We hope that Pertamina can realize the target,? he said.
In the first pattern of chemical injection in Tanjung field, there has been one injection well and 2 monitoring wells. Later, Pertamina will apply it in 36 patterns by using several existing wells as injection wells and monitoring wells.
?For full scale, Pertamina has planned to have 51 monitoring wells, of which 26 will use existing wells after conducting workover,? he said.
SKK Migas has obliged all production sharing contractors (PSC) to apply the EOR technology in their wells that had seen a declining production.
Previously, Medco and Chevron have applied the EOR technology in their fields. Medco had implemented a pilot project of EOR in its field of Kaji Semoga of Rimau Asset in South Sumatera, while Chevron had done it before Medco in its fields in Sumatra.
Gde noted that in the near future, SKK Migas will issue an EOR guideline based on what it calls ?no cure no pay?. ?We?re working on it. We hope that it will increase our national production in the future,? he said.
