The state-owned oil and gas company Pertamina will ask the government to step up security at oil and gas facilities belonging to U.S. companies operating in Indonesia following the alleged terrorists attacked on World Trade Center in New York and other U.S. government buildings.

?We?ll ask the government to increase security in the (oil and gas) assets of U.S. PSCs (oil and gas production sharing contractors) operating in Indonesia,? Pertamina upstream director Iin Arifin Tahkyan told Petromindo.com.

Dozens of U.S. oil and gas companies are operating in Indonesia.

There has been speculation that terrorists particularly from the Middle East have intensified efforts to attack U.S. interest worldwide.

Meanwhile, spokesman of Devon Energy, Erwin Lebe told Petromindo that the company had yet to discuss with its headquarters what necessary measures should be taken following World Trade Center incident.

However, he said that the company would welcome any move by the government to improve security condition.

Caltex Pacific Indonesia spokesman Renville Almatsier expressed similar statement.(Godang)
