Pertamina, Badak NGL sign agreement on solar power project

State-owned oil and gas firm PT Pertamina said its power producer subsidiary PT Pertamina Power Indonesia had last month signed an agreement with PT Badak NGL to develop a combined 4 MWp (megawatt peak) of solar power plant with investment of Rp 67 billion.
Pertamina said in a statement on Thursday that the power plant will supply electricity to support the operation of the Bontang LNG plant in East Kalimantan, operated by Badak NGL, which is controlled by Pertamina.
The statement said that the agreement was signed by President Director of Badak NGL, Didik Sasongko, and Director of Pertamina Power, Ginanjar.
Pertamina said that the agreement forms part of the company?s commitment in promoting the development of renewable sources of energy. As per this year, Pertamina indirectly owns a combined 587 MW of geothermal power plants.
Meanwhile, Pertamina Senior Vice President for Research and Technology at Pertamina, Herutama Trikoranto told Petromindo.com on Monday that the company has been in talks with Japan?s Mitsubishi Corporation for the development of solar power plant projects in Indonesia. He said that the two companies will prepare feasibility study, hopefully to be concluded within a year.
He said that the location of the projects will depend on the results of the feasibility study. He added that Mitsubishi will provide the technology.
