Pertamina begins construction of Cilacap refinery plant

Pertamina will spend up to US$1.4 billion to build the residual fluidized catalytic cracker (RFCC) which will have an annual capacity to produce 1.9 million kiloliters of high-octane gasoline, 352,000 tons of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and 142,000 tons of propylene.
Pertamina said that the construction of the new refinery unit, which is expected to begin commercial operation in 2014, is part of the government?s master plan for the escalation and expansion of the Indonesian economy (MP3EI). The construction of the new refinery plant is also part of the government?s program to be self sufficiency in fuel production by 2018.
At present, Pertamina has six refinery plants with total capacity to process 1 million of crude oil per day or to produce 41 million kiloliters of processed fuel a year, which comprises of 12 million kiloliters of gasoline, 18.3 million kiloliters of diesel, 7 million kiloliters of kerosene and 3.3 million kiloliters of aviation fuel (avtur). At present, the domestic fuel demand reaches 56 million kiloliters with an average of 4 percent growth a year.
The new RFCC which use UOP and AXENS technology will be able to increase the total capacity of the Cilacap refinery complex by 62,000 barrels per day. At present, the intake capacity of Pertamina?s refinery plants reaches 1 million barrels per day -- Cilacap refinery with a capacity of 348,000 per day, Balikpapan refinery with a capacity of 260,00 barrels per day, Dumai refinery with a capacity of 170,000 barrels per day, Balongan refinery with a capacity of 125,000 barrels per day, Plaju refinery with a capacity of 118,000 barrels per day and Kasim refinery with a capacity of 10,000 barrels per day.
