Pertamina, BP launch new gas project

The state-owned oil and gas company Pertamina and energy giant BP Plc. officially launched on Tuesday a new gas project in the Kepodang field, Block Muriah, which is located some 180 km east coast of Semarang, the capital of Central Java.

The company said that the project would be developed by a new entity called BP Muriah Ltd. It said that the front engineering design work was expected to be started in the second quarter of next year.

Pertamina said that the project would start producing natural gas in 2005.

The statement said that according to 1992 estimate, the Block Muriah has some 500 billion cubic feet of gas reserves.

The natural gas from the project would be delivered to the Tambak Lorok power plant in Central Java. BP Muriah Ltd. has signed a contract with the state electricity firm PLN to supply some 147 mmcfd of natural gas to the power plant.(Godang)
