The state-owned oil and gas company Pertamina and BP will invest around US$2 billion to construct one LNG (liquefied natural gas) train facility in the Tangguh area in Papua province if they win the LNG supply contract from China?s Guandong province, the Suara Pembaruan daily quoted BP spokesman Satya W. Yuhda as saying.
The Tangguh gas liquefaction project, backed by Pertamina and BP Plc, is on a shortlist along with Australia LNG Pty and Qatar to supply around 3 million tons per year of gas to China's first LNG import terminal at Shenzhen in southern Guangdong province starting 2005. Two winners would be announced in June.(*)
