State oil and gas firm Pertamina and PT Bumi Siak Pusako are considering to build a power plant for Coastal Plain Pekanbaru (CPP) oil block in Riau which is managed and operated by their consortium, a consortium official said Tuesday.

CPP block?s oil wells currently require between 28 megawatts (MW) and 35 MW of electricity, which so far has been supplied by state power firm PLN, said consortium subsurface manager Gandot Werdiantoro.

?Stable power supply is so crucial to the operation of oil wells in the oil block. Blackout will no doubt cause a fall in oil production,? Gandot told reporters.

Gandot said that the consortium was conducting a feasibility study on the possibility of building a power plant for CPP block. Riau provincial administration owns Bumi Siak Pusako. (godang)
