Pertamina buys tankers to strengthen distribution fleet

State oil and gas company PT.Pertamina on Tuesday signed US$29 million contract to purchase two units of 6,500 LDTW tankers from state shipmaker PT DOK & Perkapalan Surabaya (Persero).
According to a statement from Pertamina the first tanker will be delivered March 2011 and the second will be delivered six months later.
Pertamina will use the tankers to strengthen its fuel distribution fleet.
Pertamina CEO Ari Sumarno said that currently the company operted 130 tankers, 80 percent of which are chartered.
According to Ari, Pertamina has also placed order for 5 30,000 LDWT tankers with Zhejiang Shipbuilding Co, with the contract is expected to be signed soon. (Bernard)
