Pertamina calls on government to reconsider Semarang FSRU

State oil and gas company PT Pertamina (Persero) pins its hope that the government would revive the Semarang Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU) on grounds that the FSRU would still be needed to serve gas needs of state electricity PT PLN in Central Java.
Nanang Untung, SVP for Gas of Pertamina told Petromindo.com that Pertamina is submitting inputs to the Minister of State Owned Enterprise Dahlan Iskan so that he, on behalf of the government, will reconsider the project.
The Minister in early April ordered Pertamina to cancel the plan to build the Semarang FSRU in Central Java. Minister Dahlan wants Pertamina to prioritize the development of a gas pipeline that connects the main Java island.
Pertamina had earlier planned to develop the Semarang FSRU through its subsidiary PT Pertagas.
Pertagas President Gunung Sardjono in an interview with petromindo.Com last year said that Pertagas will own and operate the FSRU, which will have capacity to process 1.5-3 mtpa of LNG to be distributed in Central and East Java region.
The planned Semarang FSRU, if the government approved it, would be the third in Indonesia after the West Java FSRU and Lampung FSRU.
