Pertamina, Caltex to develop marginal gas fields in Jambi

State oil and gas company Pertamina announced on Friday that it had signed a memorandum of understanding with American oil and gas company PT Caltex Pacific Indonesia on the joint gas exploration and production in the western part of Jambi Province.

Pertamina said in a statement that the MOU had been recently signed by Pertamina's exploration and production director Gatot K. Wiroyudo and Caltex's president Humayunbosha in Jakarta.

According to Pertamina, Caltex has been burning crude oil equivalent to about 250 million cubic feet of gas per day (MMCFD) to create energy for the extraction of oil at its steam flood project in Duri, Riau. The burned crude oil could increase to equivalent to 500 MMCFD in 2003.

As a matter of fact, Pertamina said, Caltex could use natural gas rather burning crude oil for the steam flood project.

Under the MOU, Pertamina and Caltex will cooperate in gas exploration and production at the marginal fields in the western part of Jambi and send the natural gas to Caltex's steam flood project in Duri. (*)
