State-owned energy company PT Pertamina has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Microsoft, which will assist Pertamina in its digital transformation process in accordance with the company's IT roadmap for the period of 2020-2024.
The MoU was signed by President Director of Pertamina Nicke Widyawati and President Director of Microsoft Indonesia Haris Izmee, and witnessed by Minister for State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) Erick Thohir.
Nicke said the cooperation will focus on achieving four goals. First, Microsoft will assist Pertamina on asset integration management from upstream do downstream. In the upstream, Pertamina manages 61 working areas and thousands of wells.
"We will try to integrate all of these through the Internet of Things (IOT) so that we can monitor all of our assets operations in every field through an integrated mechanism," she said.
Nicke said digital transformation will be undertaken on the company's processing business and distribution. "We will integrate digital transformation in refineries and (carry out) preventive maintenance so that production will increase," she said.

The second focus will on the digitalized transformation of Pertamina's organization, in particular on the business process. "We will apply data center initiative and modernize all applications under big data scheme which will help the board of management in making decisions," said Nicke.
Thirdly, Pertamina together with Microsoft will improve Pertamina employees' expertise and working culture, including developing the so-called 'digital culture'.
Fourthly, Microsoft agreed to make a special cloud system for Pertamina Group. "In this case, Microsoft is working with many companies. This will help Pertamina in entering the global market place," she explained.
The MoU will last for one year. Nicke hopes that before the MOU expires, Pertamina already has a roadmap for its implementation and collaboration. "I also hope that this cooperation will improve the entire performance of Pertamina which will ultimately improve its revenues and efficiency so that service to consumers is also better," she said.
