Attorney General?s Office spokesman I Wayan Pasek Suartha assured Monday that the sentence of former Pertamina operational director Thabrani Ismail would not be postponed. The Jakarta Post reported Tuesday.

Thabrani failed to appear at the Jakarta Prosecutor?s Office on Friday as promised for medical reasons, said his lawyer O.C. Kaligis.

?If he doesn?t turn himself in soon, we?ll arrest him,? Pasek said.

He said Thabrani?s illness was not sufficient reason to postpone his sentence. However, Pasek did not say when the arrest would be made.

Thabrani was found guilty by the Supreme Court of corruption in connection with a US$189.5 million exploration project of state oil and gas firm Pertamina in Balongan, Indramayu, West Java, in 1989.

The Supreme Court jailed him for six years in April. Lower courts had however acquitted him of all charges although prosecutors demanded 12 years for the suspect. (*)
