Pertamina develops EOR technology application

State-owned oil and gas firm PT Pertamina through Pertamina Upstream Technology Center (UTC) has succeeded in developing enhanced oil recovery (EOR) technology application in a number of projects.

Pertamina said in a statement on Monday that among of the EOR technology application developed by UTC include viscosity test in Bantayan field, SLS surfactant formulation in Rantau field, EOR CO2 pre-feasibility study in Sukowati and Tambun fields, steam flood pre-feasibility study in Batang field, implementation of software EOR predictive modeling, and provision of second stage EOR laboratory.

Senior Vice President for Development of Technology at Pertamina, Amran Anwar said that UTC has been actively teaming up with domestic research institutions and universities in developing EOR technology.

As has been previously reported, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources is drafting a new regulation that would require oil and gas contractors in the country to apply EOR technology in their operations in a bid to help increase the amount of crude oil that can be extracted from oil fields as part of strategy to help secure the country?s future oil production.
