PT Pertamina EP (PEP), an upstream subsidiary of state-owned oil and gas firm PT Pertamina, aims to boost oil production at the Poleng field in East Java to 5,000 bpd from the current 1,700 bpd.

Pertamina EP Director of Development Herutama Trikoranto said in a statement Monday that there?s still huge oil reserves potential of 10 million barrels in the Poleng field.

He said that to help boost production, the company will focus on exploiting the ngimbang formation, where another Pertamina unit PT Pertamina Hulu Energi (PHE) WMO has been quite successful.

Herutama was also optimistic that the company would manage to boost production as it has previously managed to reach output level of 3,400 bpd before recently tumbling to 1,500 bpd due to compressor breakdown. The problem was fixed two days ago, Herutama said, hoping that production would soon return to the 3,000-bpd level.

He said that PEP plans to add another compressor going forward. He added that production cost at Poleng field currently remains quite efficient atUS$15-17 per barrel. (*)
