Pertamina EP, a subsidiary of state oil and gas firm PT Pertamina (Persero), says production of its six oil fields has exceeded the set target this month.

As of early May, the Rantau field produced 2,861 barrels of oil per day or 17% higher than the target; Lirik field production hit 2,375 bopd or 6% higher than the target; Bunyu field produced 6,249 bopd or 35% higher than the target; Sangasanga field produced 6,442 bopd or 18% higher than the target; Tarakan field production reached 830 bopd or 21% higher than the target; and Tambun field produced 8,808 bopd or 1% higher than the target.

Pertamina EP spokesman Agus Amperianto said on Thursday the solid performance was a result of optimalization of production equipments and drilling of development wells.

"We hope the achievement will strengthen our optimism and positioning as a national oil and gas company that is capable to boost production," he said in a press statement on Thursday.

He said that although 80% of the company's oil fields are already aging, it turned out that production of Pertamina EP wells have showed a sustainable rise over the past five years. (godang)
