PT Pertamina EP (PEP), an upstream subsidiary of state-owned oil and gas firm PT Pertamina, started last week 3D seismic survey in Klamossa, Papua Province, in a bid to find new oil and gas reserves.
PEP Acting President Director Nanang Abdul Manaf said in a statement obtained Wednesday that the company plans a total of 500 sq km of 3D seismic survey in Klamossa, of which about 200 sq km will be covered this year, and the remaining 300 sq km next year.
He said that this is not the first time for PEP in carrying out seismic survey in Papua as last year it conducted a 2D seismic survey in South Sorong and Bintuni regencies.
Nanang said that the Klamossa seismic survey forms part of PEP?s target this year to conduct a total of 883-km of 2D seismic surveys, and 621-sq km of 3D seismic surveys. Last year, PEP carried out 953-km of 2D seismic surveys and 1,009-sq km of 3D seismic surveys.
Anggaraita Putra S., an official at upstream oil and gas authority SKK Migas Papua and Maluku regional office, said that the Klamossa seismic survey ecompasses nine districts in Sorong Regency, and will require around 18 months to complete. ?This is a new hope for the upstream oil and gas industry to find new reserves potential in the eastern part of Indonesia,? he said in the statement.
