PT Pertamina EP has been forced to postpone exploration drilling activities at the Bambu Besar (BBS)-2 well within the Rengas Dengklok block, West Java, due to protest from local community.

?The BBS-2 well in Karawang is facing problems with street protest from the local community. We should have spudded the well on August 16. Negotiations are currently underway with the representatives of the protesters,? VP of Exploration Nanang S. Manaf told petromindo.com.

Nanang claimed that the protest was the result from provocation from some sections of the community who wish to gain greater benefits from the activities there.

Earlier in August, the company announced it has found hydrocarbon reserves at Bambu Gunung-1 well. The seam content test (UKL) at the BBU-1 well shows condensate production of as high as 252 bopd, and gas of 5.2 mmscfd. The well is located in the Sukatani-Kerawang area of West Java, East of the Cimalaya field.
