KSO Pertamina EP Samudra Energy BWP Meruap has carried out a chemical enhanced oil recovery field trial at the Meruap field in Sorolangun, Jambi, SKK Migas head Djoko Siswanto said.

The field trial, conducted on March 1, 2026, involved injection of domestically produced surfactant chemicals. Production gains are expected to start appearing around three months after injection.

The Meruap field is a mature field that has entered the tertiary recovery stage and faces declining reservoir pressure and rising water cut.

The chemical EOR program covers 16 wells, consisting of three injection wells and 13 production wells. Two injection patterns, M-15 and M-47, use the domestically produced surfactant Starborn SeMAR, while pattern M-07 uses RCT A-127, also produced locally.

Pantja Sunu Wibowo, President Director of PT Samudra Energy BWP Meruap, said the project is the first field trial within the company’s cooperation area with PT Pertamina EP and is expected to serve as a model for similar EOR and improved oil recovery programs.

The company is targeting a production increase of around 15% from the field trial, Djoko said.
