PT Pertamina EP, the upstream subsidiary of state-owned oil and gas firm PT Pertamina, spudded on Saturday a second well this year within the Bunyu field in Bulungan Regency, East Kalimantan, as the company aims for higher output.

The company said in a statement Tuesday that the well, located in B-1307 Dam Baung, was spudded with N80UE/22 rig with 1,000 HP capacity owned by PT Pertamina Drilling Services Indonesia. The 43-day drilling program, implemented following previous three successful drilling programs at B-1504, B-1308, and B-1309 locations, was expected to be completed in May.

Bunyu field entered 2014 with encouraging signs as production reached 5,500-6,000 bopd, about 91-100 percent higher than the target set in the company?s 2014 work and budget plan. After a series of past production decline, the field is targeted to return to solid production level of 10,000 bopd.

Drilling at the new location B-1307 is targeted to produce crude oil of 600 bopd, as part of efforts to meet the overall production target of 10,000 bopd the company said.
