PT Pertamina EP (PEP), a subsidiary of state owned oil and gas firm PT Pertamina, has started drilling at the UMM-01 exploration well in Sangasanga field, East Kalimantan.

The firm said in a statement on Monday the well is the first of a total of six wells planned to be drilled by the firm in the field in 2014-2015.

Sangasanga Field Manager Hanief Jauhari said the firm targeted each of the six wells will be able to produce at least 200 bopd or a total of 1,200 bopd from all the six wells. Each of the wells may produce up to 4,000 bopd.

?Based on the study by our geological team, the potentials of UMM are huge. It is like a sleeping giant,? Hanief said.

A ceremony was held recently by PEP at the UMM-01 well to mark the spudding of the well, which was attended by among others Samarinda Mayor Syaharie Jaang. The mayor welcome the drilling activities, saying if the driling was successful, the mayoralty will get increased revenue from oil in the future.
