PT Pertamina EP, the upstream subsidiary of state-owned oil and gas firm PT Pertamina, aims to bolster the crude production of its Bunyu field in East Kalimantan to 10,000 bopd this year.

Bunyu field Manager Rizal Wisnuwatan said in a statement that the company plans to accelerate drilling program at eight new wells to bring the Bunyu field back to its ?glorious days? with production level of 10,000 bopd. He did not provide comparitive production figure.

?If we want to increase the production at Bunyu, one of the conditions is that the speed of our drilling must be accelerated, and carry it out aggressively and massively because of the unique obstacle (characteristic) of the Bunyu field where water level could quickly rise and decline,? Rizal explained.

He added that other measure is by expanding the lifetime of the aging wells by enhancing subsurface data.

?What we want now is drilling acceleration, and increase the lifetime of wells by multiplying the subsurface data to analyze the performance and lifetime of the aging wells,? said during a recent meeting with visiting President Director of Pertamina EP, Adriansyah to the field.

He said that while Pertamina EP has given Bunyu field a two-year time to boost production to the 10,000 level, Adriansyah was optimistic that the target could be realized this year. ?My promise to the president director to reach 10,000 bopd level in 2014,? he said, adding it would help Pertamina EP meets its production target this year of 128,000 bopd.
