PT Pertamina EP Tarakan Field has allocated US$24 million to finance the planned drilling of four new wells in the Sebakung and Tarakan areas, within the Tarakan block, North Kalimantan, that is expected to increase the block?s production rate to 2,700 bpod.

?The planned drilling will be implemented in September 2017. It has obtained approval from SKK Migas (upstream oil and gas authority),? said Tarakan Field Manager, Adhi Herusakti in a statement on Sunday as quoted by Tempo.co.

Adhi said that geological study reveals that the wells each has the capacity to produce 300 bopd. He said the four wells are expected to be able to maintain the Tarakan block oil and gas production.

Pertamina has exploited as many as 124 aging wells from the then Dutch colonial era at the Sembakung and Tarakan areas. The wells currently still have production rate of 1,700 bpod. ?The total number of aging wells is 1,442 and only a small number that can still be exploited,? Adhi said.

?Next year, there will be proposal to drill engith new wells here, but still awaiting for SKK Migas approval,? Adhi said.

Pertamina through indirect subsidiary Pertamina EP Tarakan acquired the Tarakan block from former operator Expan-PT Medco E&P in 2008. The company has managed to increase the block?s production rate to 1,700 bopd from 526 bpod. (*)
