Pertamina EP unit Sangasanga revives suspended well in South Kutai Lama

Preliminary production test conducted on the well resulted in 150 barrels of oil per day of production speed. The success has given a boost to the company?s optimism to accelerate reactivation of suspended wells under the auspices of UBEP Sangasanga Tarakan.
UBEP Sangasanga Tarakan has prepared 10 wells in South Kutai Lama structure as candidates for the reactivation program, along with production facilities. The structure was discovered by BPM (Batavia Petroleum Maatschappij) in 1902 and since then 45 wells had been drilled there until the structure was suspended in 1981.
Apart from South Kutai Lama, the Sangasanga Tarakan business unit has reactivated Jembatan Bengkok structure in Samboja and Mengatal structure in Tarakan. Altogether, there are 13 active structures in UBEP Sangasanga Tarakan working field.
UBEP Sangasanga Tarakan is the business unit that exceeded the target in the first semester of the year. It produced 7,133 bpod or 14.7 percent higher than the set target in the first half of 2011. In August the production continued to increase to 7,243 bpod or 17.2 percent above the target.
UBEP Sangasanga Tarakan is Pertamina EP?s business unit that operates Sangasanga and Tarakan working fields. Sangasanga area covers 5,325.5 hectares, Anggana/NKL 6,181.1 ha and Samboja 1,840 ha. The Sangasanga Tarakan working field was previously operated by the Technical Assistance Contract (TAC) Pertamina-Medco Kalimantan.
Pertamina EP took over the field at the end of the old operator?s contract on Oct. 14, 2008. Pertamina EP?s operation effectively began the day after through Sangasanga Tarakan business unit.
Following the transfer, production of the field displayed a significant increase. In 2008 production stood at 4,300 bopd, but after the transfer Pertamina EP managed to boost production to 5,300 bopd and now it has reached 7,243 bopd.
Sangasanga Tarakan business unit has also done its best to comply with the environment rules. Based on the Ministry of Environment?s assessment in 2010, the company received a blue mark in its environmental audit or PROPER.
The operation of the field dated back in the 19th century, pioneered by the Nederlandsch-Indische Industrie en Handel Maatchappij (NIIHM) in 1897-1905. The field was taken over by BPM (Batavia Petroleum Maatschappij), which operated in 1905-1942. Japan colonial government controlled the field in 1942-1945. There were a series of operational transfers from BPM/Shell/Pertamina/Pertamins in 1945-1972, TIPCO ? Tesoro in 1972-1992, PTEN -Medco E&P in 1992-2008, before Pertamina EP arrived in October 2008.
