State oil and gas firm Pertamina is finalizing a cooperation agreement with Malaysia?s state-owned oil and gas firm Petronas Bhd to supply jet fuel (avtur) at Surabaya, Medan, and Denpasar airports next year, Sindo Daily reported on Thursday.

Vice President of Pertamina in charge of aviation fuel affairs Hariyoto Saleh said in Jakarta on Wednesday that Pertamina's negotiation team had recently departed to Malaysia to discuss the agreement.

Under the planned agreement, Pertamina will supply avtur to Malaysian airlines landing in Indonesian territory as Petronas will provide a similar service to Indonesian airlines landing in Malaysian territory.

Aside from Petronas, Pertamina is also studying the possibility of cooperating with other foreign oil and gas firms, including British energy giant BP Plc, PT Chevron Pacific Indonesia (CPI), a subsidiary of American oil giant Chevron Corp., to provide fuel for airlines.

In April this year, Pertamina signed a deal with Anglo-Dutch energy giant Royal Dutch/Shell to provide avtur at Soekarno-Hatta Airport starting October this year.

In the meantime, Pertamina?s aviation operational manager Eldy Hendri said that Pertamina normally supplies 3,000 kiloliters of avtur per day but the supply usually increases to 3,600 kiloliters during the holiday season at the end of the year. (*)
