Pertamina finds oil deposit in West Java

PT Pertamina EP, a subsidiary of state oil and gas company PT Pertamina, has discovered oil deposit of between 10 and 11 million barrels in North Randegan, Cirebon, West Java .

Head of upstream oil and gas regulatory body, BPMIGAS Kardaya Warnika said in Jakarta Thursday that the new discovery would add to the oil reserves in the country. However, he said that the new deposit would not start production until the next five to six years.

According to Kardaya, the oil reserve was good enough because it was not only found in the formation of Cibulakan but also in that of Talang Akar.

Pertamina EP’s director for business development Haposan Napitupulu said that based on exploration results, one well in Randegan could produce up to 300 barrels of oil per day (bpd).

On the occasion, BPMIGAS had also asked Pertamina to start drilling activities on Tiung Biru field in East Java in 2007. Tiung Biru field is located close to Jambaran gas field of the Cepu block.

According to him, the gas output can be used to meet gas supply demand from fertilizer plant in Java for twenty one year.

Haposan added that Pertamina had, in fact, planned to start drilling activities on Tiung Biru field by end of 2008 or early 2009. “However, because BPMIGAS has asked us to start drilling this year, then we will try to do it.”

Haposan said that the fixed amount of gas deposit in the field had yet to be known.

The 2009 oil and gas production target was expected to in crease by 30 percent to 1.3 million barrels per day from the current 1 million bpd. “The increase is for both oil and gas,” Kardaya said. (godang)
