Pertamina finds oil in Cepu

The state-owned oil and gas company Pertamina found oil in Desa Sumber village, some 18 Kilometer from Cepu, Blora Regency, Central Java, the Kompas daily reported Wednesday.

Environmental manager of Pertamina Cepu office Setianto was quoted by the paper as saying that the company planned to drill until 2,500 meters depth to make sure that the location really contained oil.

He said that the company had acquired around 24,221 square meter of land in the area for the drilling purpose.

He said that Pertamina was also eying other potential oil sources in Kedungtuban, Pulo and Wirosari areas in the neighboring Grobogan regency.

He said that if the areas proved to contain oil, it would be the largest oil source in the Southeast Asean region.(*)
