Pertamina Geothermal targets to operate 1000 MW in 2015

PT Pertamina Geothermal has targeted to increase its power generation capacity to 1,000 MW in 2015, up from 272 MW at present.

The firm is developing or has planned to develop several geothermal projecs with a total capacity of 750 MW, company planning and development director Zainal Ilmie Bachrun said on Monday.

The company use funds from external sources, such as loans from commercial banks, to finance the projects, he said, adding it costs the firm US$3 milion to build a megawatt of gothermal power.

The firm has signed a power purchase agreements to sell power from PLTP Ulubelu Unit 1 and 2 to state owned electricity firm PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) for 4.2 US cents per kwh; and power from PLTP Kotambagu Unit 1 and 2, PLTP Hululais Unit 1 and 2, PLTP Lahendong Unit 4 and PLTP Sungai Penuh Unit 1 and 2 for 4.3 cents per kwh.
