PT Pertamina Geothermal Energi (PT PGE) a newly-established geothermal arm from State oil and gas company PT Pertamina has set a target of commencing commercial operations of the Kamojang Unit IV geothermal power plant in West Java by early 2008.

The power plant is expected to produce up to 60 megawatts (MW).

PT PGE?s president director Bambang Kustono said Tuesday that Kamojang Unit IV plant is scheduled to enter the phase of commissioning at the end of 2007. During this phase, it is hoped that the plant can generate 60 MW of power.

The Kamojang IV is the first Pertamina's independent power project to sell electricity to state-owned utility firm PT PLN.

Prior to Kamojang IV, Pertamina only sells the steam that it generates to PLN. Pertamina supplies steam to Kamojang I, II and III units, which had combined capacity of 140 MW.

On March 2006, Pertamina awarded Shaw Stone & Webster a subsidiary of US engineering firm The Shaw Group Inc. for contract of an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC). (godang)
