Pertamina has no off budget funds

Friday, June 30 2000 - 04:00 AM WIB

President of the state owned oil and gas firm Pertamina Baihaki Hakim claimed on Thursday that his company had no off budget funds.

Baihaki said that all revenue and expenditure in the company had been included in the company's budget made in the beginning of the financial year.

He also said that the budget and Pertamina's book had been audited by independent auditor.

Baihaki was responding to calls by Finance Minister Bambang Subidyo that all government departments and state institutions must transfer their off budget funds to state coffer at the latest by July 10.

Off budgets had been the source of corruption in the past. The funds, which is basically non-tax revenue collected by various departments and state institutions, had been also been used to finance the 32-year authoritarian rule of former president Soeharto.

The government has vowed to eliminate all off budget funds to improve governance and help curb corruption. (*)
