State owned oil and gas company Pertamina has imported 16 cargoes of gas since early last month to cope with the shortage of the supply due to the halt of the operation of the Balongan refinery plant in Indramayu, West Java, Koran Tempo reported on Thursday.
Pertamina's spokesman Abadi Purnomo said in Jakarta on Wednesday that the state owned oil company bought the LPG at US$700 per ton. Each cargo contains about 1,800 metric tons of LPG.
He said the domestic demand reached of between 2,500 tons and 2,600 tons per day this year.
Abadi, however, said the amount of LPG import would be reduced as it planned to buy LPG from gas fields in Jabung district in Jambi province operated by PetroChina starting March.
The operation of the Balongan refinery plant which produces about 1,300 tons of LPG a day, has been temporarily halted since February 15 to allow regular maintenance services. The operation will be resumed early next month. (*)
