Pertamina in talks with Marathon Oil over possible cooperation

State oil and gas firm Pertamina said on Tuesday that it has held preliminary talks with US oil firm Marathon Oil Corp. over the possibility of gas cooperation in its newly discovered Donggi gas field in Central Sulawesi.

?It?s still to early to say. But we have held talk, which, hopefully will lead to cooperation either to market gas from Donggi field or cooperation to develop the gas field,? said Iin Arifin Takhyan, Pertamina upstream director.

Pertamina discovered a huge gas reserve in Donggi last year year.According to Iin, the reserve is sufficient to built two trains of natural gas liquefaction plant with annual capacity of 6 million tons.

Iin said Pertamina had been actively trying to seek partner to develop and market the gas.

He further added thatPertamina had also had similar talks with US energy firm El Paso Corp. and with Philippines? PNOC. (alex/godang)
