State-owned energy firm PT Pertamina (Persero) is currently in discussions with oil and gas companies in the United States regarding the supply of crude oil and LPG to Indonesia.
Deputy Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Yuliot Tanjung, said that Pertamina is currently in the United States to expedite the delivery of crude oil and LPG.
“Pertamina is currently in the U.S., identifying which companies can supply us quickly and how the logistics can be arranged. We expect to secure supply from various sources to meet our crude oil and domestic LPG needs,” Yuliot said on Friday (April 24).
In addition to discussions on accelerating crude deliveries, Pertamina is also engaging with U.S. counterparts to fulfill commitments related to increased imports.
At present, Pertamina is exploring potential sources that can meet the increased import commitments outlined in the Agreement on Reciprocal Tariffs (ART).

“So, we are working to increase imports as part of fulfilling our commitments under the ART. At the same time, we are assessing additional sources for crude supply. That is currently being detailed by the Pertamina team,” Yuliot added.
Previously, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia stated that Indonesia has begun importing crude oil from the United States as part of a broader effort to strengthen national energy security and diversify supply sources amid tightening global market conditions.
The move continues the government’s earlier plan to shift part of its crude imports away from the Middle East, where geopolitical tensions have raised concerns over supply security—particularly along key transit routes such as the Strait of Hormuz. Previously, the government estimated that around 20–25% of Indonesia’s crude imports pass through this corridor.
Under the revised strategy, a portion of these volumes is being redirected to U.S. suppliers as a precautionary measure, reflecting Jakarta’s efforts to reduce exposure to regional risks while ensuring stable domestic fuel supply.
