State-owned energy company PT Pertamina on Tuesday (09/04) inaugurated the operation of aviation fuel depot in Binaka Airport, Gunung Sitoli, Nias Island.

The Binaka aviation fuel depot has capacity of 53,000 liters. The fuel depot receives aviation fuel supply from DPPU Kualanamu, Medan.

Senior Vice President Corporate Marketing Business of Pertamina Kusnendar said that the operation of the DPPU Binaka is part of the moves of the company to expand aviation fuel depot across the country.

“As an energy company owned by the State, Pertamina now serves aviation fuel depot in 67 airports across the nation, including airports in remote areas like this one,” Kusnendar said.

He added the operation of the Binaka DPPU shows Pertamina’s commitment to support the government’s drive to develop remote, outer and border areas. DPPU Binaka sells around 1,000 liters of aviation fuel per day to support fuel needs of airlines that land in Binaka Airport.

Currently, there are seven flights per day that are serving the Binaka Airport to and from Kualanamu in Medan, Minangkabau in West Sumatera and Soekarno-Hatta in Cengkareng, Tangerang. The airlines that are flying to the Binaka Airport are Garuda Indonesia, Citilink, Wings Air and Aviastar Mandiri.

Last year, around 300,000 aircraft passengers arrive and take off from the Binaka Airport.

In 2017, around 40,000 tourists visited Nias and projected to more than double to 100,000 in 2019. Deputy Regency Head of Nias Arosokhi Waruwu appreciates Pertamina’s move to set up aviation fuel depot in Nias as it will help stimulate the economic development in the area.
