The state-owned oil and gas company Pertamina has intensified security at oil and gas facilities in the country particularly those related to U.S. firms, according to an official.

L. Harijanto, Pertamina's public relations manager said that security at PT Caltex Pacific Indonesia and PT ExxonMobil Oil Indonesia had been beefed up.

Harijanto said that the move was made following the recent terrorist attacks on New York and Washington, and the current plans by the U.S. government to attack Afghanistan.

He said that some 300 military/police personnel had been added to secure Caltex?s assets in various locations in the Riau province.

Meanwhile, additional security was also provided to ExxonMobil Oil Indonesia?s operation in the troubled Aceh province to ensure that all gas clusters could fully operate by the end of this year.(Arry)
