The state-owned oil and gas firm Pertamina has started to introduce a new concept in its retail operation by developing integrated gas stations that also provide other needs of customers in addition to fuel in one location.
Pertamina logistic and domestic market director Harry Poernomo said that the new strategy was launched to anticipate future competition with the opening of the retail market to foreign players in 2003.
The first integrated gas station has been recently opened in the Cibubur area, East Jakarta. Located on a 7,000-sqm plot of land, the gas station also provides other products and services including car service station, telephone booth, restaurants, automated teller machines, etc.
The gas station is a joint venture with a private company called PT Molindo Pramuka.
Harry said that similar gas stations would continue to be developed in other parts of Jakarta and other big cities in the country. (*)
