State-owned oil and gas firm PT Pertamina and state-owned railway firm PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) on Tuesday conducted trial operation of LNG-fueled train at a KAI facility in Yogyakarta, as part of a program for the conversion of high speed diesel into LNG in the operation of KAI?s locomotives, which is the first in Southeast Asia.
Pertamina said in a statement that the two companies signed an agreement on August 28 of last year for the joint fuel conversion program in the transportation sector.
Pertamina Vice President for Corporate Communication Wianda Pusponegoro said in the statement that LNG for the joint project is sourced from Bontang plant in East Kalimantan.
?If the pilot project is successful, the company will sell LNG commercially for trains in April 2018,? Wianda said.
