PT Kilang Pertamina Internasional (KPI) Unit Balikpapan has officially launched UltraDex, an Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel (ULSD) fuel that meets Euro V standards, as part of efforts to strengthen the supply of cleaner and more efficient fuels.
The product was launched on Thursday at Banua Patra, Balikpapan, East Kalimantan. UltraDex contains a maximum sulfur level of 10 parts per million (ppm), a cetane index of at least 55, Total Acid Number (TAN) of up to 0.20 mgKOH/g, and a pour point below -3°C. These specifications are designed to improve combustion efficiency, maintain engine performance, and reduce exhaust emissions.
General Manager of KPI Unit Balikpapan Novie Handoyo Anto said the launch reflects the company’s commitment to producing globally competitive fuels that support Indonesia’s energy transition agenda.

UltraDex is produced at the Balikpapan refinery, which has a processing capacity of 360,000 barrels per day. Monthly UltraDex output is targeted at 265,000 barrels, with the first lifting scheduled for December 19, 2025, totaling 53,500 barrels.
According to Anto, the high cetane index helps reduce engine knocking and improve combustion quality, while the low sulfur and acidity levels protect engine components and lower particulate emissions. He added that the fuel’s stability can reduce gum and varnish formation, supporting long-term engine reliability.
