France-based engineering and technology company Axens said it has recently signed several technology licensing agreements with Indonesia?s state-owned oil and gas firm PT Pertamina for its major expansion project to upgrade residue into gasoline in Balikpapan, East Kalimantan Province, and for a new middle distillate hydrotreater in Cilacap, Central Java Province, to comply with new regulations.

Axens said in a statement last week that the Balikpapan project consists in a grassroots Resid FCC unit (R2RTM) with a design capacity of 90,000 BPSD, a LPG sulfur removal unit (SulfrexTM), a Propylene Recovery Unit (PRU) as well a new 80,000 BPSD middle distillate hydrotreater (Prime-DTM). The gasoline produced by the Resid FCC unit will be selectively hydrodesulfurized in a Prime-G+TM unit with a design capacity of 48,000 BPSD to produce ultra-clean gasoline.

The Cilacap project consists in a 36,000 BPSD grassroots Prime-DTM (Distillate Hydrotreater) unit allowing the production of ultra-low sulfur diesel.

The integration of Axens? suite of technologies from the state-of-the-art Resid FCC to the production of ultra- clean fuels thanks to the world leading technologies such as Prime-G+ and Prime-D will enable Pertamina to significantly reduce Indonesia?s dependence on foreign imports of transportation fuels.

?The signature of these agreements marks an important milestone in the partnership between our two companies,? said Jean Sentenac, President and CEO of Axens in the statement.

?We started our collaboration back in 2002 and the magnitude of these new projects underlines the trust built over the years.Axens is committed to delivering the highest quality of work to make this project a full success and we are proud to contribute to Pertamina future supply of top quality fuels.?
