State oil and gas company Pertamina would likely pick South Korea?s Hyundai Shipyard to construct 2 very large crude carrier (VLCC) for Pertamina, a company official said Wednesday.

? We are likely to pick Hyunday to construct the 260,000-DWT VLCC because they are giving more favorable terms than another contender,? said downstream director Muchsin Bahar. He, however, did not elaborate further. Another contender is Japan?s Mitsui Shipyard.

The 2 VLCCs are part of 12 tankers that Pertamina ordered to support crude and oil products distribution to and from Indonesia and throughout the country.

Pertamina in June opened tender for 2 units of 3,500 LTDW tankers from domestic shipyards, 3 units of 6,500 LTDW, 2 units of 17,500 LTDW, 3 units of 30,000 LTDW, all of witch could be sourced either from domestic and international shipyards, and 2 units of 260,000 LTDW, sourced from international shipyards only.
