Pertamina looks for partner to carry EOR program in N. Sumatra

State oil and gas company Pertamina said it was considering looking for partner to apply enhanced oil recovery (EOR) program at its Rantau upstream operations in North Sumatra as the field had reached mature stage.

? Rantau field has original oil in place at around 400 million barrels. If the EOR program could add just five percent to recoverable reserve, than we will have additional 20 million barrels that we could tap,? said Eteng Salam, Pertamina deputy director upstream on Tuesday.

He said that Pertamina is seeking for experienced partner to carry out the EOR program.

?We are looking for partner such as Caltex, which has extensive experience in doing EOR in their oilfields in Riau, ? said Eteng. He, however, said thus far there has been no formal talk with Caltex about the issue.

Pertamina?s Rantau operations currently produce some 4,000 barrels of oil per day and some 60 million cubic feet of gas per day. (alex)
