State-owned oil and gas firm PT Pertamina announced Sunday that it has lowered the retail price of its Pertamax fuel oil product by Rp 200-Rp 300 per liter for consumers outside Java Island, effective August 15.

The company said in a statement that the lower price was made possible in light of the development in the international oil price and the exchange rate the rupiah against the US dollar.

It added that the lower price is expected to drive up demand for the Pertamax fuel brand outside Java Island. In Aceh, for instance, the new retail price of the Pertamax fuel is set at Rp 7,700 per liter, down from Rp 7,900 per liter, while in West Papua the new price is set at Rp 10,350 per liter, down from Rp 10,650 per liter.
