PT Pertamina Lubricants has developed a Chemical Enhanced Oil Recovery (CEOR) product to support crude oil production at Pertamina Hulu Rokan (PHR), expanding the company's portfolio into specialty chemicals for Indonesia's upstream oil and gas sector.
The company said its surfactant based product, PHR24, is being deployed as part of CEOR operations to improve oil recovery from mature reservoirs by increasing the efficiency of oil displacement.
Pertamina Lubricants said the technology is intended to support Indonesia's oil and gas production targets while contributing to national energy security.
Vice President of Corporate Strategy and Business Development Abdul Hafid Rasjid said the development marks the company's transformation into a provider of value added specialty chemical solutions for the upstream industry.
The PHR24 surfactant formulation was developed by PHR's technical team based on reservoir characteristics and operational requirements, while Pertamina Lubricants is responsible for blending and manufacturing the product to ensure consistent quality and compliance with field specifications.
In addition to supplying the chemical, Pertamina Lubricants is providing technical support during field implementation to optimize performance under site specific reservoir conditions.
Company management recently visited PHR's Minas Area A in Riau, where approximately 3,400 metric tonnes of PHR24 surfactant have been deployed across three reservoir patterns as part of the CEOR program.
Abdul said the collaboration demonstrates that domestically developed technologies can provide added value to Indonesia's upstream oil and gas industry.
He added that Pertamina Lubricants will continue investing in research and development of industry specific specialty chemical products to support the energy sector while improving the competitiveness of locally developed products.
