BP Migas, the government’s agency in charge of oil and gas exploration and production, has said that it has no problem with the planned appointment of state owned oil and gas company PT Pertamina as the “single seller” of the country’s liquefied natural gas (LNG) to major overseas buyers including Japan, Korea and Taiwan, Neraca daily reported on Thursday.

The chairman of BP Migas, Rachmat Sudibyo, said in Surabaya on Wednesday that his agency had no problem with the appointment of Pertamina as the single seller of the country’s LNG.

“But it needs to be coordinated because the sales of LNG will involve several parties particularly production sharing contractors (LNG producers),” he said.

The government has appointed Pertamina as the single seller of the country’s LNG to Japan. The government is also assessing the possibility of appointing the state owned oil and gas company as the single seller of LNG to other major markets including South Korea and Taiwan.

“Pertamina might also be appointed as single LNG seller to Korea and Taiwan as long as the company could fully represent BP Migas’ interest,” he said. But the appointment of Pertamina as the single seller of LNG in the two counties had not been decided, he added.(*)
