Pertamina may import LNG to planned Arun receiving terminal

State owned oil and gas company PT Pertamina (Persero) may import liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Qatar or Australia to meet the surge in the demand in the domestic market, the company?s president director Karen Agustiawan said.

Karen said that the LNG will be distributed through a LNG receiving terminal which would be built in Arun. The LNG plant in Arun would be modified into LNG receiving terminal when production was totally stopped within the next two years.

?We want to change the Arun LNG plant into a receiving LNG terminal. It can be turned as a satellite hub for East Asia,? Karen said at the opening of the sports and arts week held by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources.

Karen said that the LNG terminal in Arun would be operated to provide gas supply to Aceh and North Sumatra. ?The terminal will have a receiving capacity if 100 million standard cubic feet (mmscfd),? she added. (godang )
