Exploration drilling at an offshore well called Grupa-1 at the Senoro Toili block, in Central Sulawesi, has indicated new gas reserves potential of about 1 trillion cubic feet (tcf), Investor Daily reported on Tuesday.

?New gas potential has been found in Grupa, Senoro Toili block, with a potential of up to 1 tcf,? said Lukman Mahfoedz, President Director of IDX-listed energy firm PT Medco Energi Internasional Tbk as quoted by the paper.

He said that further assessments are required including whether additional drilling program is needed before deciding whether the potential can be commercially produced.

The Grupa-1 well was spudded on September 14, and the drilling program was expected to be completed before the end of this year.

The Senoro Toili block is owned by JOB Pertamina-Medco E&P Tomori Sulawesi.

The block is among the blocks that will supply gas to the Donggi-Senoro LNG (DSLNG) plant now under construction.

The DSLNG plant is owned by the consortium of Medco, Pertamina, and Japanese firm Mitsubishi Corporation. The plant will have a total production capacity of 2.1 million tons per annum, and will obtain its gas supply from the Senoro and Matindok gas fields. (*)
