State-owned oil and gas firm PT Pertamina said it has taken actions to contain leaks at its aging fuel pipeline at Manonjaya District, Tasikmalaya Regency, West Java, by suspending the pipeline operation and cleaning up the leakages to help avoid environmental damage and hazard to the public.

The pipeline, used to distribute diesel fuel from Cilacap in Central Java to Tasikmalaya, suffered the leaks Tuesday morning, firstly reported by villagers. It was unclear whether the leaks were caused by sabotage or other reasons.

But Pertamina said in a statement that the Manonjaya pipeline was part of the aging Lomanis-Tasikmalaya pipeline which is currently in the process of being replaced.
