Pertamina named as top enterprise

Asiaweek magazine named Pertamina as Indonesia's top enterprise in 2000 and second in Asean countries.

Pertamina managed to top local companies such as state electricity company (PLN), Astra International, Gudang Garam and Indofood Sukses Makmur.

According to Asiaweek, Pertamina in 2000 booked US$17.271 million in sales and US$634 million in profit.

Of the top 1,000 companies in Asia, Pertamina ranked second in Asean after Caltex Trading, Singapore and Petronas Malaysia in third position. As for the top enterprise by industry (oil and gas), Pertamina ranked fourth after Nippon Mitsubishi Co., Petrochina Co. Ltd. and Indian Oil Corp.

The state oil and gas company also managed to reach 13th position in terms of the largest company outside Japan, number 30 in terms of highest growth in profits, 38th in the largest profits category and 48th largest company in Asia.

A Pertamina senior member of staff Ridwan Nyak Baik said the achievement shows that Pertamina's image overseas is not as bad as it is within the country, and that the state-run company is ready and able to compete with other companies.
