State-owned oil and gas firm PT Pertamina has since last month obtained permit from the government to export automotive diesel, Bisnis Indonesia reported on Friday.
The paper quoted Pertamina Marketing Director Muchamad Iskandar as saying that the government has permitted the company to export the fuel because of excess output.
?It (the permit) has been issued by the Directorate General of Oil and Gas since last month,? he said, adding that the export permit is valid for six months and can be extended if necessary.
Iskandar said that Pertamina?s automotive diesel stock currently stands at 1.87 million kilo liters, enough for 26-day supply, or higher than the minimum requirement of 19 days.
He said that with the export permit, the company could ship the excess output to markets overseas without forcing refineries to suspend production.
He said that domestic demand for automotive diesel has been declining since the past several months particularly from the mining sector.
Director General of Oil and Gas Ego Syahrial said that Pertamina has been given export permit on the condition that it must firs fulfill domestic demand. (*)
